Messed up the prior post - meant to quote you (didn't use the tag correctly!):

"It seems odd to me that everyone doesn’t have the aptitude to pick up a book and just make things happen."

Ben, sounds like me too.... When you say
I hear you. But what I have found is that most people simply do not seem to have technical aptitude and/or patience. Both are required for technical pursuits. BTW- Im ust have installed 100+ car stereos, speakers, etc for myself and family-friends over the years!

Jim,
Glad you relate, and honestly it doesn't surprise me at all. I suspect that many of my friends and readers are the same way -- or they probably wouldn't be so.
Usenet and torrents both have their advantages, but if you want to automatically download stuff, but at the same time pick and choose what you want, try filtering the RSS feeds with yahoo pipes.
For example you could grab a feed with every movie in it and then filter for movies that aren't available yet but you want to get as soon as they are.

Ben, you just described me (and I am sure a lot of other readers) as well. Give me the documentation, I am sure I can figure it out. Like you, I don't care for formal training too much but I can do small one week courses. I also did really well in vocational school (industrial electronics and telecommunications) and the technical classes I took in College. I think the secret is that I need to be interested in it...I didn't do to well in english, math (beyond Algebra), social studies.

Good review on the Popcorn Hour on Engadget HD BTW. I don't find the interface to be too bad other than it is a bit spartan and I run YAMJ as well which really improved the experience. I do have one question...what have you found to automatically download movies? I tried the combination of TorrentWatch and Transmission 1.51 and while I found that works well for TV shows...it is completely unusable for movie/DVD RSS feeds. Way too many movies being added during the day and it just fills up the Transmission queue. Would NBXT (Usenet) work better for movies?

I did get a very good laugh out of your, paraphrasing, "if you like to debate which is better, vi or emacs, you'll love the Popcorn Hour." That was classic.
